Wow! Life goes on, right? My last update was over three years ago. Yikes!! I’m sure you read my most recent post; Change. Now here is a visual of how the girls and I have been doing….

Wow! I can’t believe that is it already the end of February! Where does the time go? So, we are about 80% settled into our new house. Everything is coming together, the tantrums are dying down, and I just LOVE the morning sunshine that beams into the kitchen in the morning. The whole week we had been moving and unpacking it was raining, so I am so happy to see clear skies and sunshine!

Today was a very windy day here in Santa Monica. I only stepped outside long enough to take Sterling and the trash out. Since both Journey and Faith have coughs and stuffy noses, we spent the morning inside. I have a hard time staying indoors, but the morning passed quickly with the help from Caillou, some books and a little bit of art. We made fish in a fish bowl and then had a tea party for snack time.
The tea party was an interesting one. It has to be the sweetest and sadly to say the snottiest tea party I have every attended! We had lemon tea along with crackers, apple slices and cheese cubes. Here are the pleasantries that were exchanged…(Keep in mind that noses are stuffy!)
“A pea party! Yeaa!” (Faith)
“It’s lovely to be at a tea party.” (Journey) and I said, “It is lovely to have you here!”
After a coughing fit which resulted in a gooey mess, Journey said, “I’m ok–ma’am” (Ma’am is the proper way to address me during our tea parties.)
During slurps of tea and lots of munching Faith would exclaim, “Mmm–Nummy!” and Journey would kindly ask, “May I have some more tea, Ma’am?”
The tea party almost ended when a cup was broken,
but after a big hug–happiness was restored to our “Pea Party! Yeaa!”

Yesterday I turned 27! Woo-Hoo! I bought some new yarn and made this adorable American Girl Dress for my niece. It came from Bella Bambina and was so easy. Here is a picture…

Wow! 2009 already…Happy New Year! Like I said in the post on the main page–we are moving (*tear). It is a good and kind of sad since we have lived in this house for almost 4 years. I am ready to move and start fresh. I will miss the beach, but hopefully will find some other outdoor activity near us that will enjoy doing. Just being outside is better than anything. Well, our Christmas went well. I got to relax a bit and the girls enjoyed playing with their cousins. Journey did get a stomach bug on Christmas and never got to wear her new Christmas dress that I won from Parenting Pink. So sad. The next day she was much better and back to her normal self. But for that whole day I felt so bad not letting her eat all the yummy things we were eating. I know she was sick, but I felt like I was depriving my poor child. Santa came to see the girls at Nana’s house and Faith couldn’t stop talking about it even though she clung to Daddy the whole time! Here are a few pics from Christmas…

My hands have been very busy this week; crocheting items to sell at a craft fair, along with the gifts that I want to make my family and friends for Christmas! Here are pics of the things that I have finished and that will be sold tomorrow!
I made 5 hats (one is not shown–looks just like the other hats), two sweaters and a poncho. If they sell at the price marked then I will make $100. I will keep my fingers crossed–this will be my first craft sale!
December 11, 2008
Our Christmas decorations are up! Journey and Faith are all excited about the approaching holiday. They love to look at the lights and even had a chance to see Santa without any meltdowns…I have been busy crocheting everyone’s gifts, plus I just found out that I will have the chance to sell some things at an upcoming craft fair on the 20th! So, I really have to get my butt in gear and my hands to work! So much to do…
November 29, 2008
Hi! Our Thanksgiving trip went really well. It was a good time to relax and the girls really had a fun time. It is so amazing how much simpler life seems when we are visiting my Mother and Father-in-law’s house. They live close to the beach and have such a peaceful feeling home. Brett jokes around and says it’s so clean that it feels like a museum, but I like it. Every time I visit them I realize how unorganized and cluttery I feel at my home. I mean I have my clean spots. But nothing ever seems like it is in its place. I get too overwhelmed with it all and then I feel worse for not being as organized as I should be. I clean, but I have a tendency to be cluttery. OMG! I can’t believe I just told you that! Oh well, I don’t think anyone will use it against me (or else.)– Now I remember when I was a kid I would hide all of the things my Mom would want me to clean up in the closet. And now I realize that I do the same thing and I’m 26 years old! (Old habits die hard!)Everything is clean on the outside, but I stuff everything out of sight!! I don’t know whether to laugh at myself or hang my head in shame. That’s it. I’m going to get my butt in gear this week and de-clutter, organize and make my life feel simpler. Alright…gotta get to it! Wish me luck!
We are off tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with my Mother and Father-in-Law…Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I’m very excited about my new j.o.b.! I was offered and accepted a position to write for the UV Skinz blog! You should go and check it out. We are starting off slow…I’m sure I will be able to squeeze it in between or in replace of my daily chores.

I’m totally stumped on this list of weird things about me…
October 15, 2008
Last night I walked out onto the patio…there was a blue glow on everything. And I thought, “Where is that light coming from?” I turned around and I saw the brightest full moon! It was so incredible I called Brett to come out and see. He was kind of joking around with me because I kept saying, “Wow! It’s the moon!” Duh, right? But in the end his romantic side couldn’t resist. He propositioned me to come outside and kiss him under the full moon. Telling me that no matter what no one could take that moment or memory away from us. Even if we lost every material possession or each other–we could always be reminded of our love at each full moon. I giggled the whole time, but I loved it! And I love him!

I’ve been busy getting ready for my garage sale tomorrow! I changed the format of my personal blog–check it out at a journeythrufaith. Since I take pictures all day long I wanted to be able to share them. I really want a real professional type camera–then I will really be snap happy! While I’m on the subject I will give a short X-mas list in case anyone is shopping for me this weekend! lol
- Yarn (100% wool or blend)
- Pink Momgenda
That’s it…I’m easy. Even just one of those things I will happy with (*hint, hint!)

So far, Journey and Faith have been gone for almost 3 hours! I really don’t know what to do with myself. The first things that I did was look at pictures of them on the camera! I do know that they are going to have fun so I need to just relax and enjoy my free time. Well, with that I will give an update on my progress in a few hours…
September 18, 2008
I was doing some writing on the computer when Brett walks through the door. This is the convo that followed…
“It smells like a big fart in here!”
(He walks more into the house and stops at the door to ask me)
“Did you fart?!”
(Walks into the kitchen)
“What is that smell? Open a window!”
Ok…so would you like to know what that smell was? It was dinner! Cooking in a pot. I thought it smelled good. Oh well.

Ok…so I just finished giving out all 12 of our bloggy awards! You can view the winners at http://mommylounge.wordpress.com/2008/09/10/mommy-lounge-blog-awards/. It took a couple of hours; thank goodness for Dora, Diego and leftover mac and cheese! My girls have been very patient, but now the meltdowns are starting. Off to a bath and bed. Congratulations again to all the mommy bloggers!

Do you ever wonder where your silverware disappears to? Maybe you should check your child’s toy box, playroom or play kitchen. This is what I found in my girl’s play kitchen…

This is what my zucchini flowers look like (for Reneca). I haven’t gotten any female flowers, but I have been saving my male flowers. Now I have four so in a few days I think I will make some fried zucchini flowers. I hope they are good. I also finished Journey’s sweater. You can see it on my personal blog.

Like always, just found a moment to sit and thought I would catch up. Today has been pretty busy. Journey, Faith and I had to take Faith for her check-up. The bus ride (two buses) there went fine, but the bus ride home was hot and tiring. They both were getting antsy and they were both so tired. The last bus that we rode home was packed full of people and we managed to find a seat in the very back. After a few stops a homeless woman boarded and sat in a seat in front of us. During the ride she was talking gibberish and even belted out a few chords to a song. And actually she had a decent voice (better than mine!) I noticed that people weren’t even acknowledging her. Just turning the other way or looking down at whatever electronic device they were holding. She talked to Faith and Journey a bit–nothing that I could understand, but I just smiled at her when she smiled at us. Yes, she might have been a little crazy but she is still a person. I was just wondering what happened in life that people are so distant from other people. So distant that when a person has no one to help them, to talk to them, to even smile at them that they slowly drift off into a world of their own. It makes me sad.
One thing that does make me feel better is while I’m in the kitchen doing dishes or cleaning sometimes I feel a cool breeze come through the window. It makes me take a deep breath and feel alive. I love cool breezes…

Found a free moment to write an update! I have three little one’s today. Journey, Faith and Ruby (we watch her a couple of times a week as a part of a babysitting swap). Finally all three are napping and now I can do my chores for the day; ironing and blogging :-) Guess which one will get done?!

Just posted my top ten for the fourth of July weekend. Check it out–my exciting life! lol
July 5, 2008
I’m not sick anymore! It is not fun to be sick and still try to take care of children. I don’t want to go through that again! So, we are having a good Fourth weekend. We spent late afternoon yesterday at the cliffs that overlook the ocean. Journey and Faith found a way to get dirty by playing in the sand/dirt path. We laid out on the blanket, played frisbee, blew bubbles, ate pizza and ice cream and just ran around in the grass being silly. Once we got home Faith went straight to bed and Journey got to stay awake to wait for the fireworks. Just a block away from our house we stood on the sidewalk and between some houses and trees we could see a fireworks show. The funny thing is Journey kept turning away and missed some of the fireworks! We had to keep reminding her that she should keep watching so she could see them. Now today Brett’s family is coming to spend the day with us and I need to get off the computer and get ready already! lol Have a great weekend!
June 20, 2008
Last night was such a horrible night! I was so nauseous all night from about 3pm and all throughout the night. Right after I put Faith to sleep I laid in bed to watch a movie with Journey. Brett took her to the market with him and she came back with a tootsie pop at 8pm–bedtime. After quickly prying it from her hands and putting her to bed–I crashed again. It is so hard to be sick and be a Mom. So, first thing this morning I hear the girls door open, but instead of Journey coming into the play room I hear the fridge open…
June 17, 2008
Well, what’s new around here? Let’s see…my spinach, carrots, zucchini, and peppers are all growing so well. But when I go to water them I always see these little nat like bugs fly out everywhere. I hope they aren’t pests! But I’m going to look up some homemade spray just in case. I have crocheted some projects with my big bag of yarn. I crocheted Brett two beanies, flowers to put on Journey new ballerina leotard (to cover the seams because I had to tailor it to fit her), and now I’m working on Reneca’s wedding favors! All right, thought I would have a few more minutes to write but I have to start my day. Until next time! Bye!
June 8, 2008
Oh my God! I just posted the pic for Speechless Sunday and I can’t believe it was 3 years ago! The last time my best friends and I were together :-( It’s ok though because we are all doing well. That was my 23rd b-day and I am so lucky to have amazing friends. I know if it all went down that they would bail me out of jail or be holding my hand in jail! Love you guys! Kalisha
June 7, 2008
Faith got her first bee sting yesterday afternoon while we were at the park! :-( She was playing in the grass and then all of a sudden started to scream and grab at her foot. I put on my Doctor hat and layed her down to inspect. Luckily the stinger slip out easily and after a little boobie she was fine and off playing again. It was a little scary because I wasn’t sure if she was allergic, but the good news is–she isn’t.
So, today when the girls and I get home from garage sale shopping I see a bee in the house! I guess it was revenge for the bee stinging Faith yesterday, but I was on a mission to kill the bee. Brett says, “Leave it alone, it’s not hurting you.” But I was like, “yeah–but it could.” He defended the bee by telling me again “to leave it alone–haven’t you seen the Bee Movie?!” I still killed the bee. Sorry.
I found so many cool things at the garage sale today. Go to ajourneythrufaith to see it!!.
Have a great weekend!!

Can it be June 5th already?! Crazy–time is flying. My plants are growing, my girls are growing and it is happening so fast. I decided to start up my personal blog again. I had taken a little break I guess, but I had some funny things happen that I wanted to share. I will still give updates on this page but you can also read more about me and my life on my blog, ajourneythrufaith.

I just made a 2 bottles of Rosemary Wood Cleaner; 1 for me and 1 for my neighbor who let me borrow some olive oil. It was easy to make and very inexpensive in comparison to the store bought wood cleaner. Now my house smells amazing just from making the rosemary infused water needed for the recipe. After I put Faith to bed Journey and I took Sterling on a walk and went searching for rosemary and lavender. I needed the lavender because I am making lavender/vinegar all purpose cleaner, but I have to let the fresh lavender infuse into the vinegar for 6 weeks. I will let you know how it turns out in July. I’m kind of kicking myself in the butt now because I can’t believe I never took advantage of the natural resources we have around here. Practically on every corner there are lavender and rosemary plants and even right behind our house we have some. Well, my plan is to not buy anymore cleaning products. I have been doing research and making your own is so much easier and cheaper. So, I will give you the recipe that I used–try it out!
Rosemary Wood Cleaner
1/2 c white vinegar
1/2 c rosemary infused water
1 tsp liquid dish detergent
1/8 tsp olive oil
Mix all together. Use full strength, dip clean cloth into mixture. Squeeze out excess and start cleaning. (I put mine in a spray bottle so that I could spray it onto my cloth to clean) *So, far my dining room table is as shiny as if I had used pledge!*
Boil 1 qt of water, turn off heat and add rosemary sprigs right into water, cover and let steep for 20 minutes. Take out rosemary and you have your rosemary water! Store unused water in an airtight container.
Lemon Air Freshener (My next project!)
2 c. hot water
1/8 c baking soda
1/2 c lemon juice
Combine all into a spray bottle and spray away!

Just to give you an update; it took me three days to finish my laundry! I had so much that a neighbor of mine wrote me a note saying she had been waiting for two days to use the washer and dryer! lol I did laugh out loud too because it was just ridiculous. Well, onto better things. My spinach has sprouted! I am so excited for all the spinach we will be able to eat–for free! Now I am waiting on my carrots and I need a new pot for my brocolli since they are about an inch or two tall. Journey likes to talk baby talk to the plants! I think she got that from my Mom who had always told me that is the key to making your plants grow.
May 23, 2008
It is 4pm here in sunny and partially rainy california and I have 14 loads of laundry! That’s $40 dollars! I really need my own washer and dryer. Shocking I know! I didn’t realize it was that much because I had kept it hidden behind the curtain in our bedroom. Maybe I could take Reneca’s lead and do a load a day. The problem with that is we don’t have a washer in our house and it costs $2.50/load. Oh well, someone send me good thoughts so that I can make it through it all.
Why is blogging so addictive?! I really need to get my house in order but this computer has put me in a blogger trance. Don’t ask me what I have accomplished the last two hours I’ve been online…crazy. Well, after I write this I am shutting it down. Finally worked my mommy networking skills and have someone to swap babysitting with. I am really excited because Journey and I get to go to our Mommy and Me group tomorrow! I just hope Faith will be alright. This would be the first time that I have left her alone with someone not related to me in someway. Saying goodbye will be hard for me. :-( Well, my brocolli seeds sprouted! YEA! I planted some carrots and tomorrow I will plant my spinach seeds; both of them in planters. I am happy that I am learning how to garden. I hope to turn my thumb green and learn a really useful skill. OK–going to sleep. Goodnight!
May 19, 2008
I had a great weekend! Fun in the sun (with no choice!) We just relaxed around the house, the girls played in the kiddie pool and we did a little garage sale shopping. Oh! and I also got some vegetable seeds and a cool book on how to garden. I really want to learn how to produce my own food. It will be a good skill to have for the future. Also, makes me feel more confident that with rising food prices we would be able to provide for ourselves.
Brett and I had a good weekend. We played and laughed and flirted. He cooked dinner on Sunday and even relaxed himself. I have been trying to really watch the way I talk to him and keep my attitude in check. Reneca finally got her Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands book from the hold list at the library and it made me get my book out again and start reading. One piece of advice always sticks out for me is that you should treat your spouse like a new puppy; encouraging and praising the little things and never scolding. So, I hope for a good week also, which I know we will have.
Journey and Faith are both doing well. No runny noses or anything–just happy healthy girls. Two little peas in a pod! They hold hands now; which is so great for me because I don’t have to hold Faith as much now. They also love to “dance” holding each others hands and twirling in a circle until Journey throws them both down to the ground with lots of giggles. Faith can say “Mine!”, no thanks to Journey. And Journey is starting to talk a lot more. She is like a little mama to Faith and her babydolls. Always saying, “listen to me” and shushing her crying babies. Very cute.
Besides gardening I am trying to get organized. I have made my chore chart for the week along with Journey’s. And sticking to it has been a challenge because I don’t like to constraints of a schedule. But I am coming to realize that I need to do it. In the past few days that I have been going along with it things have seemed smoother. I just wanted to eliminate my cleaning during the day. So, if I wake up early and spend an hour after they go to bed then my day is free to enjoy my girls, Brett and my day. I am going to try to stick to it–I need more discipline!
Well, that is that. Oh yeah, I almost forgot! My broccoli babies that I started inside are sprouting–and it has only been a couple days! Very exciting–I see my thumb getting a little greener!
Bye for now! Kalisha
