Lounge tip # 5:  Take a power nap

The body needs 7-8 hours of sleep each night in order to be fully functional. With the schedule of a mom, its hard to even sleep through the night with a waking newborn, toddler or even preschooler. So no wonder as afternoon hits we all can find ourselves fighting to stay awake. 

When you put your kids down for their nap, curl up on the couch and take a little power nap. This does not mean you should sleep until your comatose, but taking a quick 15-20 minute power nap is very bennifical to you. Taking a power nap will increase your patience, and decrease your stress making you more efficient.  So after you little nap you will be ready to tackle the rest of your day. 

Here are some pointers for a more effective nap:

  • Avoid caffeine after 3pm. It’s a stimulant that can disrupt your sleep and stay in your system longer than you think; its half-life is four to six hours!
  • If you don’t want to nap a long time, set an alarm.
  • If you don’t have time for a power nap, or don’t feel comfortable napping during the day, try meditation; it gives your body a rest and produces slower brain waves similar to sleep.

    • 2 oz peach juice or peach puree
    • 4 oz Champagne


    1. Pour the peach juice or peach puree into a champagne flute.
    2. Slowly add the Champagne.
