Teething Biscuits

We know how fun it is when your infant or toddler is teething.  Here is a recipe for teething buscuits that your child will enjoy chewing on. 

Homemade teething buscuits

  • Quick cooking oats
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground ginger
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Baking powder
  • 2 overripe bananas
  • Vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil
  • Medium bowl
  • Large bowl
  • Parchment paper to line baking sheet, or butter or margarine to grease baking sheet
  • Baking sheet
  • oven
  • Timer
  • Grinder or food processor for oats
  • Rubber bowl scraper
  • Wire cookie rack
  • Airtight container for food storage

1.1Grind up enough oats to make 1 cup of oat flour. Make it as fine as you can get it in your grinder or food processor.
2.2Combine 1 cup of whole oats, 1 cup of oat flour, 1/4 tsp. of any or all of the spices and 1 tsp. baking soda in a large bowl. Set it aside for a moment.
3.3Mash up the overripe bananas in a medium bowl. Add 1 tsp. vanilla extract and 3 tbsp. vegetable oil to the mashed bananas.
4.4Scrape out the bananas into the flour mixture and stir together. Drop the dough onto a parchment lined or greased baking sheet with a spoon.
5.5Bake the drops at 350 degrees F for 12 to 15 minutes.
6.6Cool the drops on a wire rack and store in an airtight container. Give one to your baby the next time he or she wants something to chew on.
Here are other natural teething remedies you can try.  One of these might work with your little one, or you may need to combine a few to relieve their pain.  (consult your doctor befor trying any of the herbal remedies)

* Frozen teething ring.

* Frozen/cold fruit.  Throw fruit in the freezer and let baby chew on it.  Watch for any broken pieces so they won’t choke.

* Frozen washcloth. Wet the cloth and put it in the freazer.  It will coolness will soothe baby’s gums.

* Natural teething tablets. We recommend Humphries teething tablets.  Contains Chamomillia to reduce irritability and belladonna for the inflammation.

* Vanilla extract. Rub on baby’s gum for a warm and soothing sensation. 

 * Clove oil. You’ll want to delute it since it is strong.  Mix a couple of drops of oil with 2 tablespoons of water.  Rub on baby’s gums. (This is a safe edible oil)

    Banana Bread Sticks

    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup oil
    2 eggs
    1 cup mashed banana
    1 3/4 cups flour (white, whole wheat, or a combination)
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    Combine ingredients and stir only until smooth. Pour into a greased loaf pan.
    Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour or until firmly set.
